All About Karma Club
When I was around eight, my family and I were eating at a Denny’s in Anchorage, AK. At the time, we were very tight on money, and my Father’s budget for all five of us was ten dollars. I can remember making lemonade with the waters the waitress brought us by using sugar packets and lemons so none of us had to buy beverages. When it came time to pay for the bill, a stranger approached the table and commented to my parents what a nice family we had and that he had bought our dinner.
That was 25 years ago, and to this day, my father still talks about that ten dollar dinner that a stranger bought for us at Denny’s. About five years ago, Dad asked all us kids to stop buying him Christmas and Birthday presents and to just buy a meal for a nice family in his honor and in honor of the man who bought a meal and, without knowing, planted the seed for the Karma Club.
Every single day, I encounter someone in need. Maybe they need their driveway shoveled or their teeth fixed, maybe they need some help when their car breaks down or a plane ticket to see their ailing mother, maybe they don’t quite have enough for the groceries or maybe, just maybe, there’s a father eating with his family at a Denny’s in Anchorage, Alaska who is staring nervously at a ten dollar dinner bill. The purpose of the Karma Club is to get people to see these situations as opportunities to do the right thing and help someone out just for the sake of helping them out.
The Karma Club is founded in honor of my Father and in honor of that man who bought our dinner 25 years ago and changed my outlook and perspective in doing so.
